The WPHS nomination for Teacher of the Month for November, 2020, is Mrs. Julia Homan.  Julia is a graduate of WPHS and returned a couple years ago to teach our Culinary Arts program.

Julia earned her Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Science Education from BYU.  She did some teaching in Utah before we were able to bring her onboard.  Since that time, she has grown our culinary program to include Baking and Pastry and established our local FCCLA club.  Students from that club have catered local events and competed at the state level and earned a place at nationals.

Julia has taken on the districtwide team lead position for CTE.  She posts agendas and facilitates the weekly team meetings at which they collect and analyze data from SLGs, develop rubrics and plan assessments, and share best instructional practices.  In addition to her role in the CTE department,  she is an active member of the school Leadership Team.  Through that position, she takes on additional duties such as being on the subcommittee of Google Suite experts for support of her colleagues.

The above are examples of the collaboration and data analysis we hold as values for the district.  We also value the continuous pursuit of professional learning opportunities.  Julia is definitely a life-long learner.  She takes advantage of state level professional development opportunities and even signs up for culinary schools across the country to further her trade skills.  In these things, she is a role model for colleagues.

We are very fortunate to have one so committed to the teaching profession, the students, her personal growth, and our school as a whole.  It is the administrative staff’s honor to present to the Superintendent, Board of Trustees, and the Ely Lion’s Club our November Teacher of the Month, Mrs. Julia Homan.
